HENRO — A Preview
On March 27, I will open a new exhibition in my gallery in Alkmaar, presenting HENRO for the very first time.
The exhibition marks the world premiere of the project and coincides with the release of the book HENRO, published on the same date.
HENRO is the result of a two year process, beginning with a pilgrimage across Japan and ending with a completely new body of work, presentation, and publication. A project shaped by movement and time.
More details on the exhibition, editions, and availability will follow soon. Scrol down for a sneak preview of some works.
Behind HENRO
HENRO began as a journey, not a project.
My brother and I followed the Shikoku Henro pilgrimage route in Japan, which connects eighty-eight temples across the island of Shikoku. We completed the entire journey by bicycle. That choice defined everything. Cycling created a rhythm that sat between speed and stillness. It was fast enough to cover distance but slow enough to remain exposed to the weather, terrain, fatigue, and chance encounters.
